For the contrabass, the term “classical bow” is not so easily defined. While searching for a suitable model, I stumbled across this bow in the Germanisches National Museum in Nuremberg. The frog and tip remind me of bows I know from the region around Salzburg; to me, they actually call to mind the forms of a cello bow. However, the bow is too large to be a cello bow, and my reconstructions proved to have ideal characteristics for the contrabass. Played overhand and with a perfect length for longer passages, this model has much more to offer than just its unique optics.
